Dr Richard Pollok trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital and won a highly sought after Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship gaining his PhD in the field of the gut immunity and GI infection. He was awarded The Digestive Disease Foundation (CORE) National Research Prize for this work. His current research programme focuses on the causes and improving the diagnosis of conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer:-
-His group are looking at 'protein signatures' in the serum of patients with these condition and are aiming to developing novel non-invasive diagnostic tests for these diseases in the future.
-The group are evaluating new imaging techniques to improve diagnosis in IBD and reduce patients exposure to diagnostic medical radiation.
-Presently his group are analysing a national data sets of patients with IBD to look at trends in the natural history of IBD and the impact of medical therapy on disease progression and preventing the need for surgery.
